Someday I'll get better pictures (need to shut off the turtle lamp first!- duh!). I don't use the fluorescent tube. Email me at ltheroux @ gmail

Manning School - Pond Turtle Tank (resident is a male Eastern Painted Turtle)

The turtle is so curious - he's in nearly all the photos, as he was following me around as I was taking the photos.

Tank footprint: 36 inches x 12 inches
Filter: Fluval 4 (the turtle loves to rest in the outflow!) I now make my own filter refills by simply wrapping a rectangle of 'floss' and securing it with some velcro straps that I found on some grocery store produce. Works well and is pretty economical.
Heater: set low (maybe 65 degrees) to keep him from getting too sleepy in the winter
The shelf is built out of 'egg crate' - a grate for overhead lights (in 'push-up' ceilings) - usually available in the lighting department of any large home improvement store. The pieces are connected with plastic ties (as found in the wiring department).

He now eats European night crawlers that I'm raising at home (easy if you have the space for the bin). They're just the right size for him.
